I see in the Black Hills Pioneer that SD DOT is closing the ditches on Hwy 16(Custer) from MM 22.3 to 24.4 & also Hwy 385 (Deadwood) from mm113.2 to 114.1. I thought they had to have a public…Continue

I just found out that Robaix Lake Campground is still under construction & won't be open til June so I decided that "Jim's Campground" at 20878 Two Bit Rd is open. I have 6 RV electric hookups available, a shower house & plenty of tent space if anyone is interested. We can set up the ATV Noise Tester in my shop so you can be sure you meet the new "Noise Rules" this year. Is there any way the Mystic Trail ride could be moved to June 11th instead? I ask because June 4th is the same weekend as the Ellsworth Air show, and I know I will have to work the air show and I would really like to go on this ride with you. Being new to the area and to the base I'm trying to get out on some rides with you all and see what SD has to offer. Please let me know if this is something we can do. Thanks.

- Hi, Jim. It's a pleasure hearing from you! We've got a great, well-mannered group of fellow enthusiasts coming out and Tuesday is PERFECT! We sincerely appreciate your willingness to share your love of the area with us. Any day on the wheeler is a good day, IMHO. We are going to be staying on Baneberry Loop near Deadwood and roughly 2-3 miles from the Camp 5 Rd. Is that near you, too? We suspect the weather may be pretty hot, so would love to get an early start Tuesday morning. (we might be a wee bit over-excited too). Most people in our party are in their 50-60's and are excellent, experienced riders. We'd be ready for an adventure thru the hills, rocks, overlooks, bluffs...whatever SD has to offer. Ed Goss tells me there are some great gold mines, etc to visit. Thanks so much for your ATVing spirit!

- This is very interesting and new information to me--thank you. Given that, it is entirely possible I am wrong. I wasn't aware that SD DOT offered that option. I have been talking with various folks at the state level but would like to know which division of DOT offers that option. Can you give me more information to that end so I might research that?

- Hi James! Or do you go by "Jim" ? I actually live in Maple Grove on 89th Av just east of the big power line that crosses 89th..of course MG and Osseo share the same zip. Where did you live in Osseo? I work for AVR Ready Mix but we have a plant in Barton's gravel pit. 29 years there and work is so slow I'm lucky to get 20 hours a week right now. Still about 5 years from full retirement it looks like. Hope to get back out there next summer. Are you and Ed buddys out there?
