Man sentenced for building illegal trail

BILLINGS, Mont. — A 60-year-old Livingston man has been sentenced to five months in prison and ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution for building an illegal trail in the Gallatin National Forest. Francis L. McLain was sentenced Thursday by U.S. Magistrate Carolyn Ostby in Billings. His sentence will run concurrently with a four-year Minnesota sentence he received last September for failing to pay nearly $600,000 in employment taxes for several nursing services he owned. In the Montana case, McLain pleaded guilty to damage to government property for building a mile to mile-and-a-half ATV trail in the forest. —The Associated Press

I am sure it is only a matter of time before hikers are confined to pre-identified trails. I hear they do things like that out in California.

Oh yes, best not ever leave the trail once it is identified.
