Many are aware of the Avenza Map app by now, available for Android and Apple devices. This is the most accurate and the official map app for the Black Hills National Forest. Here is a quick video on some of the features.
We also provide a link to Points of Interests (POI) for the Avenza Maps in the Black Hills. Check the Black Hills National Forest Trail Information.
Some Tips:
– Setup and download your maps and POI data while you have access to WiFi and/or cell service.
– No need for cell service for the app to function properly once maps are loaded.
– To keep the screen on the whole time while using Avenza (override screen timeout) go to Settings -> Map View -> Keep Screen On
– Familiarize yourself with the map legends before your trip. Identify the trails legal for your machine and be aware of seasonal designations
– There are 3 different maps that cover the Black Hills of SD plus 1 map for the Wyoming side.
– Northern Hills
– Mystic
– Hell Canyon
– Bearlodge (WY)
